At about 4:30 a.m. on the morning of Friday, November 13, while on patrol between mile 35 and 36 on the Northern Highway police approached a brown F-150 pick-up truck that was parked on the side of the road. Officer Harold Grinnage and WPC Kristine Avila informed the occupants of the truck, Juan Diaz and Carla Sosa, that a search would be conducted on the vehicle. The search led to the discovery of a large plastic bag, hidden under the cab of the truck, which contained cannabis. Diaz and Sosa, both of Rhaburn Ridge, were arrested and transported to the Queen Street Police Station. The cannabis weighed 400 grams.Later that day, the duo appeared in front of Senior Magistrate Dorothy Flowers in the Magistrate Court to answer to one count each of drug trafficking. They were unrepresented in court and both pled not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Flowers offered bail at $3,500. Diaz and Sosa met bail and they are scheduled to return to court on January 8, 2010. |
