Fifty five year-old Evaristo Bul, a resident from the village of San Pedro Colombia in the Toledo District, became the second murder victim to lose his life on Boxing Day.

According to Punta Gorda Police, at around 9:21 p.m. on December 26, they received information of a body lying on the Jalacte Road between the villages of San Pedro Colombia and San Miguel. The officers responded, that’s where they found Bul, about a half a mile from the San Pedro Colombia Bridge. He had suffered multiple chop wounds to the left side of the head and shoulder. It appears that his attacker, or attackers, were especially violent, and they followed up with several gunshots to the chest and the right elbow.

What police know so far is that Bul was embroiled in a land dispute with another man in San Pedro Colombia, and that case was before the Alcalde of the Village, who has jurisdiction of a lesser Magistrate in Laws of Belize. but not over land matters. Police say that their investigation shows that shortly before he was found, he had received several death threats related to this land dispute, shortly before his body was found. They believe at this time that he was killed over this land dispute. Investigators are convinced that with the cooperation of several persons of interest who they have in custody, they may be able to bring a murder charge against the main suspect.
