Jacqueline Williams, 45, of #43 Dean Street is out on bail after she was accused of stealing $80 from inside another woman’s purse as she was socializing at a Belize City shop.

Sherlette Lamb, a 46-year-old janitor of #135 West Canal, says that on Boxing Day, Saturday, December 26, she was socializing at Nikita’s Shop located at the Corner of #83 George and Dean Street when Williams took her handbag from off her bicycle that was parked in the area. Lamb says she saw Williams remove the bag and put it back. She says she also saw when Williams took the money out of the bag and left the area. When Williams returned, Lamb confronted her about moving her purse. That was when Williams told her that she did move the purse but did not take any money. Unable to get back her money, Lamb went to make a report to police about the matter and requested court action. Williams was arrested by police and charged with theft.

On Monday, December 28, Williams was unrepresented when she appeared before Magistrate Deborah Rogers to answer to a single charge of theft. She pleaded not guilty to the charge and since there was no objection to bail Magistrate Rogers offered it in the sum of $200 plus one surety of the same amount. Williams was able to meet bail and is due back in court on February 29, 2016.
