Allen Martinez, 32, of #6 Swan Street, San Pedro Town is out on bail after he was arraigned for attempting to rape his ex-girlfriend.

A 32-year-old woman visited police and reported that Martinez physically assaulted and attempted to rape her. She informed police that she knows her attacker well because he was her ex-boyfriend. Police acted upon the report and detained Martinez for attempted rape and wounding upon the complainant.

Martinez was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, December 31, where he was read two indictable offenses of attempted rape and wounding. In court, Martinez was represented by attorney Herbert Panton who submitted to Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser that the charges his client is being accused of are bailable offenses. Panton said in the spirit of the New Year his client ought to be given the opportunity to be at home with relatives given the fact that his client is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. While the prosecutor had no objection to bail, he asked the court to set conditions. Senior Magistrate Fraser offered bail in the sum of $2,500 plus one surety of the same amount. Martinez must stay 100 yards away from the victim. He is due back in court on March 2, 2016.
