Former Belize Defense Force soldier, Rennick Baizer, 32, is out on bail after he was accused of pushing his ex-common-law-wife into the sea on Newton Barracks. The fall caused the woman to sustain injuries to her body which a doctor classified as wounding. In a report to police, Shawna Gillett, 28, said that she was sitting by the sea side with some friends in front of Elements Night Club on Sunday, January 24, when Rennick Baizer approached her and the two got into an argument. The quarrel escalated and Baizer pushed her over the sea wall and she fell into the water. She suffered from abrasions to her left hand and other parts of the body. Gillett reported the matter to police and Baizer was arrested and charged.

Baizer was arraigned on Monday afternoon, January 25, in the courtroom of Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. He was unrepresented when a single charge of wounding was read to him. Baizer pleaded not guilty to the charge. There was no objection to bail which was granted in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount. Baizer met bail and is due back in court on March 23, 2016. Senior Magistrate Frazer ordered him to stay away from his ex-common-law-wife or bail will be revoked.

Gillett and Baizar were in a relationship which ended in August of 2015.
