Maskall resident, Albert Solis, 34, is behind bars after his ex-girlfriend, 30, reported to police that he beat her up, forced her into a room at a bar and sexually assaulted her on Sunday, February 28, 2016.

The incident occurred in the village of Maskall. The woman reported that she visited a bar in the village, which is run by her ex-father-in-law, and while she was there socializing her ex-boyfriend arrived. The woman told police that he forced her into a room upstairs of the bar and put a beating on her. The woman claims that he punched and kicked her numerous times to the body. After he was through, he inserted his penis into her private parts. The woman was examined by a doctor who observed her with cut wounds to her neck and abrasions to her private parts. He classified her injury as wounding.

On Tuesday, March 1, Solis was escorted before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith where he was read two criminal charged, one count of wounding and one count of sexual assault. Solis pleaded not guilty to both charges and the court prosecutor, Cpl. Christopher Smith, objected to bail on the grounds that he may try to interfere with the victim. Chief Magistrate Smith upheld the objection and remanded Solis to the Belize Central Prison until May 2, 2016.
