Quick investigative work by Belmopan Police has led to two arrests for the Friday night murder of 29-year-old Punta Gorda Town resident Keith Sambula in the village of Roaring Creek.  A machete was the weapon of choice used to fatally chop Sambula. Before the bloodshed, the mood was merry in Roaring Creek where Sambula was at a house party at the Mills’ family home in the village.  But things got ugly between 9 and 10 pm when an argument started.  It became deadly when a machete was pulled.  The sharp blade was used to chop Sambula once in the head.

The wound stretched from the right side of his cheek to the lower back of his neck.  It was deep enough to kill Sambula instantly. Police say the killers

then attempted to conceal the crime by taking Sambula’s body to the banks of the Belize River that runs through the village and attempted to throw his body into the river.  They were however busted in that attempt.

A post mortem performed on Monday in Belize City certified the cause of death as traumatic shock, massive brain damage, and head trauma as a consequence of a chop wound. Acting on directives from the Director of Public Prosecution’s office, on Monday evening police charged Phillip Felipe Reyes, 27, and Jack Noel Escarpeta 47, both of Roaring Creek Village for the crime of murder.  They appeared in Magistrate’s Court in Belmopan on Tuesday morning and were remanded to the Hattieville Prison.
