BELIZE CITY, Mon. Apr. 12, 2010

On Monday, police escorted a 15-year-old minor to the Magistrates Court where he stood before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer and was read charges of two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. Allegations are that on Friday, April 9, Ernesto Perez and Lyndon Jeffery were inside a parked Altima car on King Street when a gun man opened fire at them. The gunman missed Perez and Jeffery but damaged the car.

In court the minor pled not guilty to the charges but due to the fact that the offense was committed with a firearm, bail was not granted. He will be

remanded to the Belize Youth Hostel until his next court appearance on May 17. In court his mother told Magistrate Frazer that her son is being mistaken for his older brother. That older brother is behind bars since police took him in later that same Friday. The mother continued to say that at the time of the incident her son was with her.

Police are looking for more suspects in the case as they believe that the crime was committed by a group of men.  One of those suspects has a number of shooting related cases pending before the court.
