The Christmas holidays are always a much anticipated time of year by everyone; the young, the old, the abled, the disabled, to name a few. It is also a time of year where people give back and grant wishes to families, loved ones and even strangers as they participate in sharing the spirit of the Christmas season.
This year, the Belize Bank and its Belize Bank Santa’s Helpers were busy sharing in the Christmas spirit as it supported and participated in several social and community initiatives. Belize Bank provided a financial contribution totaling $30,000.00 in various initiatives with its partners; the Salvation Army, Hand-in-Hand Ministries, Stella Maris School and the Mercy Kitchen.
December 4th-6th, 2015: The Belize Bank built a beautiful home for Ms. Viola Martinez and her three sons. This initiative was a partnership with Hand in Hand Ministries and is the 5th house the Bank has built for a Hand-in-Hand applicant, which will allow this family to meet their basic human needs, that of a shelter.
A team of 45 Belize Bank’s Management and staff participated in the build of this house over a three-day period. The Bank provided financial support to secure the materials needed to build the house and its staff happily provided their labor and weekend time to make this a reality for Ms. Martinez and her three sons. Additionally, The Bank provided a new stove and refrigerator to the family.
December 7th, 2015: The Belize Bank hosted its 7th Annual Christmas party for over 100 children from Stella Marris Primary School. The event is solely organized by the Bank and the Belize Bank Santa Helpers entertained the children with games, face painting and music, after which they were seated to dined with a full course luncheon.
After lunch, they were greeted by Santa who presented each child with a gift which was personally contributed by members of the Belize Bank staff. All kids had a great time and look forward to the event every year. Like last year, this year’s venue was provided compliments of The Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina.
December 17th, 2015: The Bank provided its financial and in-kind support to aid the Salvation Army with its various Christmas initiatives providing toys, a Christmas party for the children, food hampers to needy families across the country.
Belize Bank Santa’s Helpers assisted with the distribution of food packages to needy families at Salvation Army Headquarters on Regent Street.
December 22nd, 2015: The Bank ended the year partnering with Mercy Kitchen in their annual Christmas Food Hamper Drive. Mercy Kitchen is a non-profit organization which provides breakfast and lunch, as well as clothing to the elderly, poor and homeless in Belize City.
The Bank provided financial support used in Mercy Kitchen’s annual Christmas food hamper drive. The food hampers consisted of non-perishable food items which provided meals for about four days to the families. The Belize Bank Santa Helpers packaged the food items and together with Mercy Kitchen delivered them to families across the city.
“We are delighted to have provided our support in partnership with these agencies, particularly at this time of the year when giving and sharing are what the season should be about,” noted Laurie Herrera, PR Manager of Belize Bank.
