Sometime around 7p.m. on Saturday April 17th, hail fell in the Corozal district. The shower lasted somewhere between 10 to 15 minutes. No significant damage was reported during the ice shower. The Met Department’s Frank Tench says that hail is not a common occurrence but it does occur in the warm months of April and May. So the weekend’s hail storm was not out of the ordinary.
Tench added that hail is generally present inside all well organized thunderstorms however the conditions have to be appropriate for the ice to actually make it to the ground.
