The National September Celebrations committee on Wednesday May 19th unveiled the calendar of events for the upcoming September celebrations. In speaking to the press, Deputy Chairperson of the committee explained that the planning has begun far in advance and the announcement of the calendar comes as part of the effort to keep the celebrations present in the minds of the Belizean citizenry from early on.
The main features of the calendar of events includes the Official Opening of the Celebrations which will take place on the 29th of August at St. George’s Caye. Haylock explained that as part of numerous requests from Belizeans to attend the opening at the Caye, the committee decided to hold the event on a weekend, specifically on Sunday 29th of August.
Along with the usual celebration activities of Carnival, the Queen of the Bay Pageant and the Carnival Road March there is the inclusion of Night of Young Patriots and National Colors Day. The Night of Young Patriots is an effort by the committee to instill more nationalism in the younger population of the country. Another effort to do the same is the National Colors Day where the greater Belizean citizenry will be encouraged to use the country’s national colors.
