Sen. Silas CayetanoThe United Democratic Party shares its condolences with the family of Senator Silas Cayetano. Silas Cayetano MBE, JP, was born in the village of Barranco on September 20th, 1925. Silas’ hard work enabled him to achieve impressive teaching qualifications. He dedicated most of his early years to classrooms across the country of Belize before he got involved with the Department of Cooperatives and Credit Unions. 

Silas served as the Registrar of the Department from 1971 to 1980. In 1979 he was honoured with the distinction of being a Member of the most Excellent Order of British Empire for his service as Registrar. Silas was a trustee of the United Democratic Party. He was appointed and served as a Senator from 1985 to 1989. His latter years were spent serving the people of the Port Loyola Constituency.  On the 18th of September 2010, two days short of his 85th birthday, Silas suffered a massive stroke, which ultimately ended his time with us here on earth.
