As part of their first Christmas project, the Rotaract Club of Benque Viejo del Carmen have embarked on its first ever Christmas Food Drive, from the 20th to the 23rd of December. The objective of this Christmas Project was to provide the basic food necessities to deserving families and to ensure that they had meals on their table during this Christmas Season.

As stated in a press release from the Rotaract Club of Benque Viejo, on Saturday, December 20, 2014, five food baskets were provided to the elderly and single mothers in Benque Viejo del Carmen Town. The food baskets given out consisted of rice, flour, sugar, beans, salt, cooking oil, canned sausage, ramen, coffee, condensed milk, and evaporated milk. Rotaractors were also able to include powdered milk, oats, choco kiwi and laundry detergent in some baskets as a result of donations received from the community and business persons in Benque Viejo.

Then on Sunday, December 22, 2014, Rotaractors embarked on the distribution of another 5 food baskets to families in San Jose Succotz Village. They were able to assist elderly persons and single mothers, who happily welcomed the donations.

Also on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 some 17 additional food baskets were given to needy families in Benque Viejo & Succotz. All 17 families were grateful for the outreach, happily welcoming the Rotaractors into their homes.

“All families were grateful for the outreach, happily welcomed us Rotaractors into their homes, and sent blessings our way for remembering them,” writes a Rotaractor, who participated in the gift giving.
“It was an enriching and satisfying experience seeing the happiness emanate from these persons. Some families even hugged us as a form of gratitude.”

With the task now completed, the Rotaract Club of Benque Viejo del Carmen expresses its sincere gratitude to Ms. Rosita Silva, Rosado’s Hardware, Mrs. Amalia Silva, Mr. Francisco Salazar, Ms. Miriel Yacab, Mr. Itan Guerra, Ms. Kimberly Contreras, Ms. Yuri Patt, Ms. Amaris Contreras, Ms. Danini Contreras, Mr. Daryl Manzanero, Mr. Miguel Gongora and Ms. Astrid Salazar who donated food baskets and groceries. The Rotaracters also take the opportunity to thank the public at large who have supported their various fundraising initiatives.
