It is interesting, to say the least, the things Johnny and Said continue to say about each other behind the back while they try to give the impression in public of being cordial and united in the interest of “the party”. Said has remarked in various settings recently that the feedback he has been getting from most of the party’s stalwarts in the various parts of the country that Johnny has been visiting is that “they are not feeling Johnny at all”, meaning he is not making any impact as a leader. ................. But Said has not stopped there, he has gone on to point out that he always knew Johnny would never cut it as a leader; which, according to Said, is one of the main reasons he did not support him in the leadership convention against Francis. But beyond that, Johnny has proven to be unfaithful; and in politics, loyalty is the most important thing, Musa added. He and others can say what they want about Ralph, he said, but when it comes to loyalty, they are not ready for Ralph.................. Said recounts of Johnny: I take a lightweight politician from Orange Walk and turn him into something. Things get to his head, so he turns around and tries to challenge me in Cabinet. Then, after betraying the leader who made something of him, he decides he wants to be leader. Well he has gotten what he wanted, but he obviously can’t handle it, and that is showing now. If he was a good and loyal Deputy and if some of the other young and overambitious people in our party didn’t get too eager for more power, we would probably still be in office today, and Johnny would probably still be my Deputy. Now he is leader, but not for long? Then after that, he will be left with nothing. He let go of the bone and grabbed the shadow. ................. While belittling Johnny, Said has been quick and at pains to point out that he (Musa) has no intentions of trying to return to the leadership of the party. Still, he has been making much of the fact that, according to him, many of the stalwarts of the party have been begging him to come back, saying they are concerned that the UDP does not respect or fear the PUP with Johnny as leader. ................. It’s a short week, and we don’t want to burden you with too much PUP gossip, for fear of spoiling your mood going into the Garifuna Settlement Day celebrations. So we’ll leave it at that for now, and next week we’ll tell you what Johnny has been saying about Said, with just as much malice. |
