After Mayor Darrell Bradley signed unto the Sustainable and Child Friendly Municipalities Initiative back in 2013 that initiative has seen many positive changes for Belize City.

In mid last year, Mayor Bradley tasked the Councilor with responsibility for Women and Children Councilor Hyacinth Latchman-Cuellar to chair the Technical steering Committee of the Child Care Friendly Initiative for Belize City.

Since then Councilor Cuellar has met with the Child Advisory Body also known as (CAB) which consist of youngsters from Primary and High schools throughout Belize City.  Councilor Cuellar reiterated in an interview that “It is very important for us as leaders to hear our children as they too have voices and they will be tomorrow’s future leaders.”  She added:  I am astounded when I sit along with members of CAB and our Technical Steering Committee and hear our city’s children speak so resonant on issues affecting their city and about their future plans for Belize City.”

One of the latest PSA on the advice of the CAB Members is the recently “Stop Bullying Campaign.”  Councilor Cuellar says that this issue was brought up by the young members as they were very vocal on this issue and said that bullying threatens many students physical and emotional safety and can negatively impact their ability to learn.

Councilor Cuellar said that the City of Belize is very committed to include city children in all its plans for the city.  She said that she has the full support of Mayor Bradley and all Councilors to make sure that this is done.

The Councilor says that CAB and the Technical Steering Committee Members will participate in a series of talk shows in the month of February to highlight the progress made by the two groups and Action Plan for 2016.

CAB Members are set to participate in the Street Art Festival on Saturday February 27th, 2016 on Albert Street in Belize City.

Councilor Cuellar commended members of Child Advisory Body and the Technical Steering Committee who she says, “All want the very best for Belize City.”
