|Italian Economic Minister in Belize|

Belmopan, 1st April, 2010.
A delegation led by the Italian Minister for Economic Development, His Excellency Claudio Scajola, made an official visit to Belize. Minister Scajola held a joint meeting with Prime Minister Hon. Dean Barrow, with Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Wilfred Elrington and with Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Erwin Contreras. Various issues were discussed during the visit, including furthering the development of economic andcommercial ties between Italy and Belize.
The representatives of the Government of Belize and Italy declared their will to establish a permanent dialogue both at an institutional level and between representatives of the business communities, to strengthen bilateral economic and commercial relations, identifying areas of economic cooperation and instruments to encourage Italian investment in Belize and Belizean investment in Italy.
The representatives of the Governments of Belize and Italy expressed their interest in developing the cooperation between small and medium enterprises and in supporting the creation of companies to provide assistance and incentives for the establishment of Belizean and Italian joint ventures, to exchange best practices and experiences with the Italian industrial districts, to attract bilateral investment by defining priorities and identifying target geographical areas and joint strategies.
The representatives of the Governments of Belize and Italy also expressed their interest in exchanging information and experiences and in sharing know-how for the benefit of all interested Italian and Belizean companies.
To strengthen the relations, the Italian Government representatives commit to seek support and involvement of the agencies and public entities to promote future investment in key sectors in Belize, and the Belizean Government commits to seek the involvement of the institutional authorities responsible for international cooperation with foreign parties and companies to expand relations with Italy.
