|Latest Development in Case against Mayor Moya-Flowers|

Belize City Council Mayor, Zenaida Moya-Flowers, was back in court on Tuesday, April 20, along with her City Administrator, Dr. Kiran Vanjani, and Senior Finance Officer, Kiran Bhudrani. Late last year, Moya-Flowers, Vanjani and the late Duane Davis were charged with 22 counts of uttering on a false document with intent to obstruct justice. The three along Finance officer, Kiran Bhudrani, were additionally charged with 2 counts of failure to comply with city regulations. The preliminary inquiry set for Tuesday did not proceed but there were developments in the case.
Sergeant Egbert Castillo, Prosecutor in the case, informed the court that Director of Public Prosecutions may issue adirective for both charges against the mayor to be tried on indictment. Initially, the charges for failure to comply with city regulations were being dealt with summarily but that is now expected to be dealt with on indictment as well. The second development was the withdrawal of the charges against Duane Davis since he is now deceased. The preliminary inquiry was postponed to May 10.
