Minister Elrington Signs Three Cooperation Agreements With Brazil Print E-mail

Belmopan, 28 April 2010.     

Hon. Wilfred P. Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Attorney General, represented Belize at the First CARICOM-Brazil Summit on 26 April 2010 in Brasilia, Brazil. The discussions between CARICOM and Brazil centered on four main priority issues: functional cooperation, financial services sector, Haiti, and trade promotion.  
During the Summit, Minister Elrington signed three bilateral Agreements with Brazil: Complementary Agreement to the Agreement on Technical

Cooperation for the Implementation of the Project “Technical Support to the Implementation of the Human Milk Bank”,  Agreement of Cooperation in the Field of Education and the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation. The implementation of these Agreements will serve as a platform for B
razil’s growing and varied cooperation programme with Belize. 

 The Human Milk Bank project aims to establish the groundwork for implementation of human milk banks to support and strengthen national maternal and child health programmes. The Agreement of Cooperation in the Field of Education aims to build education linkages between Belize and Brazil including through university exchanges, and professorial training. The Cultural Cooperation Agreement will serve to foster cooperation between public and private cultural institutions in Belize and Brazil across all aspects of culture.
Minister Elrington and the Belize delegation returned to Belize on Tuesday evening, April 27, 2010.
