In an effort to increase agricultural diversity in the Cayo district, on Thursday October 7, Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Rene Montero delivered over four hundred (400) curare plantain suckers, one thousand (1000) cassava cuttings, one thousand (1000) chaya cuttings, seventy (70) coconut palm seeds and six hundred (600) coco yams to the farmers of San Antonio Village, Cayo District.
In addition, Minister Montero also delivered one hundred and fifty (150) Akee plants and sixty (60) roosters to the villagers. The roosters will be used for breeding purposes with local fowls with the aim of increasing egg production. This is in line with the Ministry’s Platform of Food Security which focuses on rural development and the concept of the “Farm Family”.
This strategy will create employment for the entire Farm Family especially the youths, thus minimizing the migration of the youth to urban areas in search of jobs.
