It had all appearances of a community gathering under a new home in the ‘Afghanistan’ area of the Port Loyola division as close to a hundred residents of the area were present for a handing over ceremony. Being handed over were almost 50 land documents to residents of the area, those documents included leases and titles for people who’ve lived in the area and have long awaited for their land papers to be processed.
At the ceremony, Area Representative, Hon. Anthony “Boots” Martinez and Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Gaspar Vega, distributed the land documents and the recipients could hardly contain their appreciation. One happy recipient gladly proclaimed: “I got mi land papers, only under a UDP government.” In speaking with Hon. Vega, he explained that that is the attitude he’s always encountered across the country as he’s been holding similar handing over events. He explained that it is the expressed will of this UDP government to make land available to those persons who in the past were marginalized and never had an opportunity to own land of their own.
For his part Area Representative for Port, Hon. Martinez expressed his satisfaction to be able to deliver the land documents to his constituents. He explained that that is the role of a representative to deliver for his people. At the ceremony he pledged that those who did not receive their documents on this occasion would be doing so shortly.
