The Premier League of Belize Football Competition Closing Season for 2016 officially opened on Saturday 23 January, 2016, with one game on the schedule.

In the only game that was played between the Belmopan Bandits and the defending national football champions the Police United at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The host team the Belmopan Bandits was the first to get onto the scoreboard when Elroy Smith scored the only goal for his team in the 28th minute of play via a penalty.

The first half of the game ended in favour of the Belmopan Bandits.

In the second half of the game the Belmopan Bandits took its lead well into the second half until the Police Offence was able to penetrate the Bandits’ defence which allowed Danny Jimenez to score his team’s equalising goal in the 72nd minute of play for the draw.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with three games on the schedule.

On Saturday 30th January, 2016, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village at 7:30 pm, Verdes FC will be going up against the Placencia Assassins FC. At the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town also at 7:30 pm, Wagiya FC will see actions against the defending national football champions Police United.

And on Sunday 31st January, at 3:30 pm at the MCC Grounds, the Belize Defence Force will march against the Belmopan Bandits.
