Belize Smart Hurricanes remain undefeated in basketball competition Print E-mail

sports.jpg - 179.00 KbThe National Elite Basketball League 2016 Campaign continued over the last weekend with a number of games played across the country.

On Sunday 7 Stann Creek Ecumenical High School Auditorium in Dangriga Town, the Dangriga Warriors defeated the February, at the Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 60-41.

The top scorers for the Dangriga Warriors were Edgar Mitchell with 16 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals; Macario Augustine with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals and Quinton Bowen with 8 points and 7 rebounds. For the Orange Walk Running Rebels, the top scorers were Roger Reneau with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 8 steals; Tyron Baptist with 13 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

On Saturday 6 February, at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the visiting Belize Smart Hurricanes increased its record to (4-0) when it edged out the two-time defending national basketball champions the San Pedro Tigersharks by the score of 89-88.

This was the first defeat for the San Pedro Tigersharks at home dating back to the inception of the NEBL some two years ago.

The top scorers for the Belize Smart Hurricanes were Farron Louriano with 26 points and 5 rebounds, Darwin Leslie with 17 points and 4 rebounds, Glency Lopez with 11 points and Akeem Watters with 9 points. For the San Pedro Tigersharks, the top scorers were Caleb Sutton with 19 points and 4 rebounds, Raul Roches with 17 points and 4 rebounds, Ashton Edwards with 14 points and Gene Myvett with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

Out at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, the struggling Cayo Western Ballaz upended the Belize City No Limit Team by the score of 80-59. The top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were James Milton with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals; Brandon Flowers with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist and Ivan Flowers with 11 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and a steal. For the Belize City No Limit Team, the top scorers were Michael Bables with 24 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists and a steal; Gregory Rudon with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals and Jamaal Augustine with 8 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist.

At the Independence High School Auditorium in Independence Village, the Orange Walk Running Rebels won its first game of this year’s campaign when it defeated the Independence Thunderbolts by the score of 75-66.

The top scorers for the visiting Orange Walk Running Rebels were Roger Reneau with 30 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals; Leith Paulino with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal and Marston Casimero with 7 points,3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
On Friday 5 February, at the Stann Creek Ecumenical High School Auditorium in Dangriga Town, the Dangriga Warriors won handily over the Cayo Western Ballaz by the score of 58-44.

The top scorers for the Dangriga Warriors were Macario Augustine with 14 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals; Edgar Mitchell with 12 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists and James Ewing with 11 points and 11 rebounds. For the Cayo Western Ballaz, the top scorers were James Milton with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and a steal; Winston Pratt with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals and Brandon Flowers also with 8 points, 10 rebounds and a steal.

The competition will continue this week with seven games on the schedule.
