The National Elite Basketball competition continued over the last week with a number of games played across the country.
On Saturday 5th March at the San Pedro High School auditorium in San Pedro Town, the visiting Cayo Western Ballaz handed the two time defending champions the San Pedro Tiger Sharks its second defeat of the season, when it upended it by the score of 61-58. The top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were Brandon Flowers with 18 points and 6 rebounds; James Milton with 14 points and 15 rebounds and Winston Pratt also with 14 points, 8 rebounds and a steal. For the host team, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, the top scorers were Andrew Ortiz with 14 points and 6 rebounds; Gene Myvett with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Ashton Edwards with 12 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
Meanwhile, out at the Stann Creek Ecumenical High School auditorium, the Belmopan Bandits continued on its winning path when it defeated the Dangriga Warriors by the score of 65-60 to improve its record to 4-4. The top scorers for the Belmopan Bandits were Kurt Burgess with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals; Jarrel Velasquez with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal and Nick Brown with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.
For the host team the Dangriga Warriors, the top scorers were James Ewing with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal; Daniel Nolberto with 11 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 4 steals and Macario Augustine with 8 points, 16 rebounds and a steal.
On Friday 4th March at the Sacred Heart College auditorium in San Ignacio Town, the league leading Smart Belize Hurricanes extended its lead to 8-1 when it defeated the Cayo Western Ballaz by the score of 76-67.
The top scorers for the Smart Belize Hurricanes were Farron Louriano with 23 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal; Leroy Louriano with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals and Brian White with 10 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
For the Cayo Western Ballaz, the top scorers were James Milton with 24 points, 14 rebounds and an assist and Winston Pratt with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
While out at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town, the Orange Walk Running Rebels defeated the Belize City No Limit Team by the score of 81-74. The top scorers for the Orange Walk Running Rebels were Roger Reneau who scored 24 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 9 steals; Tyron Baptist with 21 points, 1 rebound and 3 steals and Jason Grant with 15 points, 6 rebounds and a steal.
For the Belize City No Limit Team, the top scorers were Michael Bables with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals; Jamaal Augustine with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal and Keith Acosta with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
The competition will continue this coming weekend.
