Oscar Quiros captures Belmopan Cycling Classic Print E-mail

quiroz.jpg - 45.47 KbThe Cycling Federation of Belize in partnership with the Belmopan City Council and the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture sponsored the 36th Annual Belmopan Cycling Classic on Sunday 12th March, 2017.

The 100 miles event which started and concluded in the City of Belmopan attracted some 60 Elite, U-23 and Master riders. At the end of some 4:05:53, it was Oscar Quiros Jr. of Smart/Cray Western Spirit that captured first place. Quiros was a part of the four man break-away group that caught Giovanni Lovell at about mile 35 on the home bound journey on the George Price Highway.

The second rider to cross the finish line was Rudy Rincon of Quintana who finished the event in a time of 4:06:26. He was followed by Josyln Chavarria Jr. of Digicell 4G Elite Cycling Team in a time of 4:06:32 and he was followed by Robert Liam Stewart who is unattached, and he was followed by Nissan Arana of Westrac Alliance to round off the top five riders.

The other top riders in the race were Kenroy “Smokes” Gladden of Kulture Megabytes and he was followed by Richard Santiago of Benny’s Megabytes and he was followed by Jose Choto and he was followed by Brandon Cattouse and then by Quinton Hamilton to round off the top ten finishers in the race.

In the female category, the event also started in the City of Belmopan then went onto the George Price Highway to Gracie Rock and then back to the City of Belmopan for the conclusion. Some 6 riders participated in the female race which was won Alicia Thompson of the Belize Bank Swoosh in a time of 3:17:02. The second female rider to cross the finish line was Kaya Cattouse of C-Ray Cycling Team and she was followed by Patricia Chavarria of Chavarria Cycling Team, and she was followed by Taralee Ordonez of Belize Bank Swoosh, and she was followed by Kaylynn Gillett also of the Belize Bank and then by Alicia King also of the Belize Bank.

Meanwhile, the junior and youth category also followed the same route as the female riders. However, some 36 riders started the event with 26 finishing the course and in the end it was Gian Lino of Cabral/Marin Cycling Team that captured first place in a time of 2:37:42. He was then followed by Derrick Chavarria of Chavarria Cycling Team and he was followed by Shaquire Tillett of Smart Team and he was followed by Joshua Fuller also of the Smart Team and he was followed by Brian Sutherland also of the Smart Team to round off the top five riders in this event.
