Peter ChotoThe Belize Cycling Association sponsored its 29th Annual Belmopan Cycling Classic on Sunday March 7, 2010. The Elite race started at 8:00 am from in front of the Constitution Park here in Belize City and then travelled to Belmopan City around the Ring Road, and unto Leslie’s Imports at Mile 2 for the finish. The Elite category attracted some 59 riders who started the 99.4 miles event with 46 riders completing the course.

At the end of the event, it was Peter Choto of Zamir Cycling Team that captured 1st place in a time of 4:20:15 seconds.  Giovanni Leslie of Santino’s Belize finished 2nd in a time of 4:20:21, Jose Choto of Western Spirit finished 3rd, Roger Troyer

of Santino’s Belize finished 4th in a time of 4:20:23, and Luis Santizo of Zamir Cycling Team finished 5th in a time of 4:22:13 to round off the top five finishers.

Others finishers in the Elite category included Nieves Carrasco-Montoya of Benny’s Megabytes who finished 6th, Gilberto Santiago-Martinez of Sugar City Stars finished 7th, Mateo Cruz of Zamir Cycling Team finished 8th, Angel Tzib of Western Spirit finished 9th, and Quinton Hamilton of Zamir Cycling Team finished 10th.

In the junior category, 44 riders started the 56 miles event, which also started from in front of the Constitution Park, then travelled to La Democracia Village and then onto Leslie’s Imports at mile 2 for the finish.

At the end of 2:38:27, it was Melvin Tillett of C-Ray Junior Cycling who took first place. Daniel Choto of Cayo High Road Cycling finished 2nd, Kyle Gentle also of Cayo High Road Cycling finished 3rd, Austin Armstrong of Clear the Land finished 4th and Johnny Joan Quintal of Despredadores finished fifth.

Others finishers in this category included Christopher Andrews of C-Ray Junior Cycling who finished 6th, Emir Aiden Juan of Cayo High Road Cycling who finished 7th, Richard Vera of Clear the Land that finished 8th, Juan Umana-Flores of Cayo High Road Cycling who finished 9th, and Kristopher Chu also of Cayo High Road Cycling who finished 10th to round off the top finishers.

In the female category, some four riders started and completed the 46 miles event which also started from the Constitution Park and then travelled to Mile 25 and then onto Leslie’s Imports at Mile 2 for the conclusion. At the end of the course, it was Shalini Zabaneh of Sagitun that captured first place in a time of 2:29:54. Sheena Castillo unattached finished second in a time of 2:32:57, Fiona Humes of Telemedia Swoosh finished third in a time of 2:32:58, and Anthea Sutherland also of Telemedia Swoosh finished fourth in a time of 2:33:05.
