BDF maintains lead in Caribbean Motors Cup Tourney Print E-mail

Orlando Jimenez and Christian OkonkwoThe Belize Premier Football League Caribbean Motors Cup Tournament continued on Sunday, November 28 with three games across the country. In the first of three games played, at the Toledo Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, the defending champion Belize Defence Force continued its dominance of the Caribbean Motors Cup Tourney when it defeated the home team Toledo Ambassadors by the score of 3 to 0.

The Belize Defence Force got on the scoreboard when Trevor Lennen scored the 1st goal of the game in the 30th minute of play to give his team an early lead. In fact, Lennen’s goal was the only goal that the Belize Defence Force really needed. In the second half of the game, the Belize Defence Force offense came alive when it scored two more goals. The 2nd goal was scored by Richard Jimenez in the 68th minute of play, while the 3rd and final goal was scored by Orlando Jimenez in the 90+ minute of the game.

At the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the visiting Hankook Verdes and the home team Griga United played to a 1-1 draw. The visiting Hankook Verdes got on the scoreboard first when Marlon Meza scored his team’s goal in the 34th minute of play to give his team a temporary lead. The first half of the game ended in favour of the visiting Hankook Verdes Team. In the opening minutes of the second half of the game, the home team Griga United finally got on the scoreboard when Lisbey Castillo scored the equalizing goal in the 49th minute of play.

Meanwhile, at the MCC Grounds here in Belize City, FC Belize defeated San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 3 to 2. FC Belize got on the scoreboard first when Christian Okonkwo scored his team’s 1st goal in the 19th minute of play to give FC Belize an early 1-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Akeem Jones scored his team’s 2nd goal in the 38th minute of play for a 2-0 lead, and so the first half of the game ended in favour of the home team FC Belize.

It was not until the second half of the game that the visiting San Felipe Barcelona was finally able to get on the scoreboard when Deris Benavides scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 60th minute of play. A couple of minutes later in the 62nd minute of play to be exact, Erick Rodriguez scored the equalizing goal for the San Felipe Barcelona. FC Belize’s final goal was scored in the 91st minute of play by Byron Usher to give FC Belize the 3-2 victory.
