UB maintains lead in Ballin’ for Life competitionThe Belize District Basketball Association 2011 Ballin’ for Life competition continued over the last week of play with a number of games at the Belize City Centre.


On Sunday May 22, in the first of two U-20 games played, Krem defeated OW by the score of 93 to 72.  The top scorers for Krem were Kaschief Thomas with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals, and Elvis Olivera with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 steal.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for OW were Roger Reneau with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and Vince Garbutt with 19 points, and 11 rebounds.

In the second U-20 game, Thunder defeated Smart by the score of 104 – 97. The top scorers for Thunder were Vince Young with 31 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, Matthew Young with 25 points, and 24 rebounds, and Luis Barcelona with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

For Smart the top scorers were Marshall Nuñez with 40 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals, and Mychal Fairweather with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals.

In the first senior game of the afternoon, Tiger Sharks defeated Bandits by the score of 75 to 67. The top scorers for the Tiger Sharks were Gene Myvett with 29 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals, and Leroy Louriano with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Bandits were Dorian Jones with 25 points, 9 rebounds and Jason Daly with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

In game two, UB defeated Mavricks by the score of 75 to 57. The top scorers for UB were Winston Pratt with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 steals, Farron Louriano with 10 points, and 12 rebounds, and Travis Lennan with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. For the Mavricks team, the top scorers were Devon Defour with 15 points and Ian Lennan also with 15 points.

On Friday May 20, in the U-20 game played, OW defeated Thunder by the score of 93-75. The top scorers for OW were Jarrell Velasquez with 33 points, 14 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals, and Raul Roches with 16 points, and 12 rebounds.
For the Thunder, the top scorers were Matthew Young with 28 points, and 22 rebounds, and Sherwin Garcia with 12 points.

In the senior competition it was UB winning over Tiger sharks by the score of 83 to 75. The top scorers for UB were Winston Pratt with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, and Randy Usher with 11 points.
Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Tiger Sharks were Gene Myvett with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Jamal Harris with 14 points, and 3 rebounds.

On Wednesday May 18, in the U-20 game it was Krem winning over Smart by the score of 104 – 89. The top scorers for Krem were Brian White with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists, and Kaschief Thomas with 19 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals. For the Smart squad, the top scorers were Raheem Staine with 33 points, and Marshall Nuñez with 18 points.

In the senior competition, Mavricks edged Black Mamba by the score of 55-53. The top scorers for Mavricks were Glenford Chimilio with 17 points and 9 rebounds, and Dwayne Davis with 16 points and 25 rebounds.
For Black Mamba, the top scorers were Ernest Tench with 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Stefen Dixon with 11 points.
