| Softball Federation Names National Female Team to Pan Am Championship |

The Belize Softball Federation held its first ever Press Conference earlier today at its Secretariat at Rogers Stadium where it presented to the media and the general public the National Women’s Softball Team of Belize that will participate in the VII Pan American Softball Championship scheduled for the City of Maracay, in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, from July 30-August 10, 2009. The VII Pan American Women’s Softball Championship will serve as a qualifier for two IOC sanctioned events and one ISF sanctioned event. The championship will qualify seven (7) teams for the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games scheduled for July 17- August 1, in the City of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in July of 2010, and then will qualify seven (7) teams for the XVI Pan American Games scheduled for Guadalajara, Mexico from October 13-30, 2011. It will also serve as the qualifier for the XI Women’s World Championship scheduled for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from July 9-19, 2010. Team Belize will join 19 other countries from the American Continent at the VII Pan American Championship. The teams are United States of America, Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Honduras, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Guatemala, Mexico, US Virgin Island, Peru, Jamaica and Panama. The players selected are pitchers: Carla Humes, Mary Flowers, Janelle Smith and Lanisha Jones, catchers: Lisa Jones and Ruth Lamb, infielders: Greta Davis, Naricia Rowland, Elaine Humes, Shadalee Ho, Sharette Vernon and outfielders Lydia Cacho, Martha Rhys, Jolene Davis, Marsha Will, Barbara Cadle and Earline Belisle. The coaching staff consists of Head Coach Gregory Moguel, Assistant coaches Edith Lizama and Floyd Flowers. The Head of the Delegation is Hon. Philippa Griffith-Bailey MBE, JP.S. |
