|18th Costa Maya Festival this weekend|

For the past 18 years, thousands of Belizeans have been making their way to Ambergris Caye to enjoy what was once known as the Sea and Air Festival and which has now evolved to the Costa Maya Festival. Every year for one weekend in August the island becomes a bustle of activity as Belizeans and tourist alike make their way on to the island to enjoy the activities.
This year it’s no different with festivities kicking off on Thursday August 6 with the Reina de la Costa Maya pageant where delegates from all of the Central American Countries compete to take the crown. This year’scontestants include Raquel Guadalupe Fuentes Bonilla, 20, from El Salvador; 21-year-old Maritza Rivas from Nicaragua; 19-year-old Jennifer Miranda Rodríguez from Costa Rica, 21-year-old Natalia Lucia Tamayo Dominici from Panama; 24-year-old Felicita Arzu representing Belize, 20-year-old Marliese Edelmann Ayala from Mexico, 22-year-old Angelica Guevara Morfin from Guatemala; and 23-year-old Ruth Maria Arita Luna from Honduras.
Aside from the pageant on Thursday, there will be presentations from the Belize Dance Company, Nu Generation Dance Company and Jackie Castillo. Friday will feature a concert with Supa G and the Danger Zone band. On Saturday, it’s the international night with Mexican ballad superstar Cristian Castro.
