rutamaya.jpg - 89.76 KbThe 17th Annual Belikin La Ruta Maya River Challenge is now history. The four days 174 miles river challenge was held from Friday March 7 and concluded on Monday March 10, 2014, attracted some 68 canoes that participated in 8 different categories. The paddlers all travelled down the Mopan River and then the Belize Old River before arriving at the Belcan Bridge on Monday March 10 at about 11:30 am.

The event which is designed to stop at three different locations on the river took in Banana Bank in the 1st lap, Double Head Cabbage in the 2nd lap, Henderson Bank in Burrell Boom in the 3rd lap before making its way to the Belcan Bridge in Belize City for the conclusion.

In the last and final leg of the journey on Monday March 10, the first canoe to arrive in Belize City was Westrac Stingers and then they were followed by the Belize Bank Bulldogs. They were then followed by BTL Cobb’s Arms came in third and then they were followed by NICH.

However, in the overall standings, it was the Belize Bank Bulldogs that came in first for a three peat and they were followed by NICH which came in second and they were followed by BTL Cobb’s Arm who finished third and they were followed by who finish fourth and then by Wateva Boys who finished fifth.
