The Student Government Association (SGA) of the University of Belize announces that it has rescheduled its fundraising "Mr. Vegas" concert, which was postponed from May 2 because of the health advisories against mass gatherings in connection with the Influenza A-H1N1 alert. The new date is Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the UB Recreation and Sports Center (UB Gym) on the Belmopan Campus, beginning at 9:00 p.m. The UB student government is venturing into such an innovative way of raising funds in order to provide a fun social event for tertiary students and the general public and to give back to UB concrete evidence of students’ commitment to education. Proceeds from the "Mr. Vegas" fundraising concert will go towards three key areas of interest to the University of Belize as follows:

· Air marking a portion of the proceeds to the development of a building

· Providing two tuition and fees scholarships (1 Associate’s & 1 Bachelor’s )

· Providing food coupons & bus passes for needy students.

UB’s Student Government Association informs all persons who already purchased tickets for the originally scheduled "Mr. Vegas" concert that tickets are valid for the new May 30 date. Tickets cost $40.00 each; additionally, UB students are advised to present an ID and receive a special price for tickets from UB bookstore. Outlets for tickets include Venus in Belmopan and San Ignacio, City Pharmacy in Belmopan and UB’s Bookstore in Belmopan. Furthermore, the SGA would like to wish all students from the University of Belize good luck on their exams and congratulates the recently elected new student government whose members will assume office in the new academic year.
