On Friday, March 24, 2017, Rodney Mahler, a 42 year old taxi driver, was arrested and charged in connection to a shooting that occurred in February of this year.

In a police report, Clint Geban told them that he was walking down a street which he did not know the name of when a car drove next to him. A man he identified as Mahler exited the vehicle and shot him in his arm.

Mahler, who was unrepresented, was brought before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith where he was charged with use of deadly means of harm and grievous harm. Given the nature of the charges, Mahler was denied bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 3rd, 2017.
