Selvin Bahadur, a 43 year-old Belize City resident of Jones Street, was shot and killed in front of his home during the very violent weekend. For his family, old wounds are opened up once again because Bahadur’s younger brother, 22 year-old Michael Lopez was murdered in the same location less than a year ago.

Bahadur’s murder happened on Sunday night, March 26, at around 10 p.m., and according to police, he was riding his bike home. He was but a stone’s throw away when he was ambushed by a gunman who fired shots at him. One bullet hit him in the head, and though he was rushed to the KHMH for medical treatment, he passed away about an hour later.

While speaking to the press, Bahadur’s mother recalled that her other son died in the same vicinity last year in July. He too was gunned down, and all indications are that these two brothers were not part of the street life in the Lake Independence area. Bahadur’s death now leaves 3 children fatherless.

Eastern Division South cops have acknowledged that there is an ongoing feud between two gangs in the Lake Independence area, and that Bahadur may have been a victim of that war. Efforts have been made to try to directly intervene by placing targeted police patrols in the area, in hope of deterring any retaliation or escalation of gang violence in the area.
