Belmopan Bandits top seed into the Premier League of Belize Closing Season playoffs Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize 2016-2017 Closing Season tournament continued over the last week of play with a number of games on the schedule.

On Sunday 26th March, at the MCC Grounds, the defending champions and the top seed into the next round of play, the Belmopan Bandits humbled the tough Belize Defence Force team by the score of 4-0.

The 1st goal of the game was scored by Elroy Kuylen in the 13th minute of play to give his team an early 1-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Nelson Chaparro scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 26th minute of play for a 2-0 lead.

The first half of the game ended 2-0 in favour of the Belmopan Bandits.

In the second half of the game, Jairo Rochez made it a 3-0 game when he scored his goal in the 82nd minute of play while Jerome James scored the final goal of the game in the 87th minute of play for the 4-0 victory.

At the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, the visiting FC Belize and the host team Freedom Fighters played to a 1-1 draw.

The visiting FC Belize was the first unto the scoreboard when Ashton Lewis scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 56th minute of play for a 1-0 lead.  However, the Freedom Fighters were able to penetrate the FC Belize defence when Wilmer Garcia scored his team equalising goal in the 83rd minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. 

Out at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, Verdes FC blanked the host team by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Marlon Molina in the 26th minute of play for the victory.

And at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, Police United FC won over the Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 2-0. The goals for Police United FC were scored by Jalen Myers in the 33rd minute of play and Devon Makin in the 82nd minute of play.

The competition will continue this coming weekend.
