An Annual Memorial Lecture series and the 7th International Festival of Culture program was launched on Thursday night of last week at the Benque House of Culture.  At the occasion, a forum discussion was presented for the first time by students from John Paul ll Junior Collage on “The UNCAC-Benefits & Challenges.”  Belize signed the United Nations Convention against Corruption in December of last year, becoming the 184th Country to do so.

Ricky Cunil coordinator of this year’s 7th International Festival of Culture also announced on Thursday that the events are  scheduled to take place from May 5 – 7, at Centennial Park in the beautiful Town of Benque Viejo del Carmen.  The goal of the festival has been to provide a forum for local artistry, as well as a form of cultural exchange and exposure between Belize and other countries across the region. This year’s festival will encompass the different forms of artistic expressions including poetry/narrative reading, mural-painting, dance, and music. Participants will involve local groups from Belize, as well as representations from Mexico, United States, Honduras, and Guatemala.

A product of the Community of Artists for Cultural & Historical Endeavors, the International Festival of Culture is also being brought forward by the OAS Office in the Adjacency Zone, the National Institute of Culture and History, BRC Printing and the Hon. Erwin Contreras.
