The Guardian Bombers are the best softball team in the city. The Guardians defeated the favoured Belize Electricity Limited interoffice team on Saturday, April 1, to claim its first interoffice championship.
The teams went head to head a week earlier and BEL destroyed the Bombers 16 to 9 by mercy rule in 5 innings. This was the 1 vs 2 matchup in the page format playoffs. This was also the first game played by both teams in over 8 months. The season was interrupted by Hurricane Earl and delayed for an extended period of time. The rust clearly showed as the usually defensively sound Bombers was extremely sloppy in the field. The loss sent them into a do or die match against the number 3 seed National Sports Council on Saturday, March 25. The defense continued to struggle with that game finishing 15 to 14 in favour of the Bombers, thanks to back to back late homeruns by Shane Williams and Bryan Grant. This set up a championship rematch.

The Championship game was close from the very first pitch. The Bombers took a first inning 2-0 lead and matched BEL the rest of the way. They held a 2 run lead behind stellar defense and excellent pitching by Melonie Woodye and Brian “Yellowman” Audinette. The females, previously thought to be the weakness of the team, played flawlessly on defense and were regulars on the bases. After seven intense innings, the Guardian Bombers celebrated an 8-6 victory.

Congratulations are in order to our entire team and in particular Team Manager and pitcher Brian ‘Yellowman’ Audinett. The players of course are no second fiddle and congratulations to them are in order. They should have been first but we save the best for last in congratulating the sponsors of our team. Big up Guardian!
