Change Your Environment!

In the First book of Samuel, chapter 16 verse 23, we read: So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.

Daily life and decisions can be very draining. And there are several times when we feel empty and discouraged because the pressure of everything expected of us becomes overwhelming. But it is important that during such times we recognize that it is temporary and there is a quick way out.

The best way out is through music. When we play Holy Spirit anointed songs which contains the word of God, it will soothe our spirits and lift our moods. It will bring a smile to our face and give us the enthusiasm to carry on.

The story above talks about the time when Saul disobeyed God, and lost the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Because in life there is never a vacuum, as soon as the Spirit of God left him, an evil spirit from God came upon him.

Even though he was under punishment, God still had mercy and showed him a way out. It was to have someone play music for him and this brought him relief making the evil spirit leave him.

I believe David was playing some of the psalms he had written to God. Because the songs were filled with words glorifying the power of God, the evil spirit couldn’t stand the worship and had to leave.

Whenever we feel down we need to check our environment, to see what we are allowing to enter into our minds and heart. If we realize it is things which make our lives feel dull and boring, then we must flood our minds with music through our own singing or listening to pure worship. This will stir up the Spirit of God in our hearts and He will inspire and impart our human spirit with joy and power to see things differently and press forward.
