On Tuesday, April 11, Paul Jex’s preliminary inquiry concluded before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. Jex, as well as Brandon Baptist, Tyrone Meighan, and John and Sheldon Grinage, were committed to stand trial for the aggravated burgulary in a home invasion of diplomat Sarkis Bou Nehra’s home in Burrel Boom in December 2015.

In court, Jex was unrepresented and did not challege any of the prosecution’s evidence. Such evidence is DNA which links Jex as the alleged attacker and rapist of the watchman’s wife.

The case is committed to stand trial at the June session of the Supreme Court, set to commence on June 20, 2017. Jex remains behind bars without bail as he is awaiting trial for this case. Meighan is on bail while Baptist and the Grinage brothers are on remand at the Belize Central Prison awaiting trial in a separate murder case which occurred in 2016.

The house invasion took place on December 6, 2016 while Bou Nehra was not at home. The watchman, his wife, and his child were present at the time. The watchman and his child were forced to watch as his wife and mother was being raped by one of the invaders. The invaders stole and destroyed a number of items. While surveillance was running, the invaders took the camera and tape.
