cycling alicia thompson.jpg - 149.87 KbThe Cycling Federation of Belize held its 28th Annual Female Cross Country Cycling Classic on Sunday 9th April, 2017.

The event started out in San Ignacio Town and concluded at the BTL Park on Newtown Barracks in Belize City. The 73 miles event attracted some 11 female cyclists including two Americans from Washington State.

At the end of 3:57:49, which is almost some 50 minutes slower than the current record that was set by Mexican Brenda Aguayo on 13th May, 2007, Alicia Thompson of the Belize Bank Swoosh, regained the garland she lost to Kaya Cattouse last year by crossing the finish line first to capture the 2017 Female Cross Country Title.

Thompson was followed by Patricia Chavarria of Chavarria Cycling Team, Kaya Cattouse of Smart/C-Ray Cycling Team, American Gina Kavesh of Elliston Coaching and then by Gabrielle Lovell of DIGICELL 4G Female Team to round off the top five finishers in the event.

The other finishers in the event included American Joan Hanscom of Elliston Coaching, former champion Anthea Sutherland of BFSC San Pedro Team, rookies Taralee Ordonez of the Belize Bank Swoosh, Paulita Chavarria of Chavarria Cycling Team, Kaylynn Gillett of Belize Bank Swoosh and then Alicie King also of the Belize Bank Swoosh.

In the junior- youth category, first place went to Taralee Ordonez of the Belize Bank Swoosh in a time of 4:28:56 and she was followed by Paulita Chavarria of Chavarria Cycling and she was followed by Kaylynn Gillett of the Belize Bank Swoosh in a time of 4:49:34 and she was followed by Alicie King also of the Belize Bank Swoosh in a time of 5:12:17.
