Belmopan Bandits SC remains undefeated in Premier League Closing Season Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Closing Season competition came to an end of Sunday April 16th, 2017, with two games on the schedule.

Of the two games that were scheduled to play, only one game did materalised and that game was played at the MCC Grounds between the Belize Defence Force FC and the Police United FC, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The visiting Police United was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Anderson Cordoba scored the 1st goal of the game in the 13th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The Belize Defence Force FC was able to tie the score at 1-1 when Shane Flores scored the equalising goal for his team in the 27th minute of play. The first half of the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

In the opening minutes of the second half of the game, Police United FC Trevor Lennan scored his team go-ahead goal in the 47th minute of play to give his team a 2-1 lead. That lead was protected by the defence of the Police United FC squad well into the second half of the game, and it was not until the 65th minute of play that the Belize Defence Force’s FC Jeremy Gentle scored his goal to tie the score at 2-2.

The other game that was on the schedule to be played was between Verdes FC and FC Belize at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, which was won by Verdes FC via the default route as FC Belize failed to show up for the game.

On Saturday April 15, at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, the host team Freedom Fighters FC won over Wagiya FC by the score of 4-2. Alexander Peters scored 3 of the 4 goals for the Freedom Fighters while Bryan Fuentes scored the other goal. For Wagiya FC, the goals were scored by Horace Avila and Krisean Lopez.

On Thursday April 13, only one game was played at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town between the Freedom Fighters and Placencia Assassins FC in which the Freedom Fighters prevailed over the Placencia Assassins by the score of 2-1.

And on Wednesday April 12, there were three games played across the country. At the MCC Grounds, the Belize Defence Force edged out FC Belize by the score of 2-1. The goal for FC Belize was scored by Ernes Wiltshire in the 27th minute of play, while the goals for the Belize Defence Force were scored by Shane Flores in the 45th minutes of play and Brian Martinez in the 71st minute of play.

Out at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, Police United FC and Verdes FC played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for Verdes FC was scored by Gilroy Thurton in the 25th minute of play while the goal for the Police United FC was scored by Trevor Lennan in the 80th minute of play.

And at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the league leading Belmopan Bandits completed the regular season with an undefeated record when it edged out Wagiya by the score of 3-2. The goals for the Belmopan Bandits were scored by Elroy Smith in the 46th minute of play, Jerome James in the 72nd minute of play and Highking Roberts in the 75thminute of play. Meanwhile, the goals for Wagiya were scored by Krisean Lopez in the 4th minute of play and Horace Avila in the 23rd minute of play.
