On April 30, 2017, a drowning was reported in the vicinity of the Hammock Bridge in Roaring Creek. The victim on the Roaring Creek drowning was Joseph Vacarro, 16-year-old student of Edward P. Yorke High school. He was to have graduated in June of this year.

On the same date, police visited the Banana Bank area where 11-year-old Sandy Lopez, a student, drowned. According to investigations, around 12:30 p.m., Armando Lopez, Sandy’s father and a Belizean farmer of Valley of Peace, was at the river where his children were swimming. He heard screams and saw that his children were being swept away by the current but he was unable to save his daughter Sandy.
