Louis Tucker, a 55-year-old Belize City man, was brought before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith on Friday, May 5, 2017 to answer to sexually assualting a woman in her 20s. Smith found Tucker guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison effective May 5.

In court, the victim took the stand and told the court that on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, she was walking on Mahogany Street when she saw Tucker coming in the opposite direction. She claimed that when Tucker got closer to her she moved and went to stand near a fence in the area and that was when Tucker grabbed her private part. She said she immediately reported the matter to police. She was placed in a police mobile and was able to positively identify Tucker as her molester.

Tucker, who was unrepresented in court, claimed that it was an accident and that he only brushed the woman’s leg. Smith told Tucker that she did not believe his version of events and that the evidence against him was substantial. With that, he was sentenced to five years in prison.

In his initial arraignment on November 25, 2016, Tucker was denied bail after the court prosecutor objected to bail and Tucker was remanded into custody since then.
