Belmopan Bandits clinch a spot in the Pepsi National Elite Basketball League finals Print E-mail

The 2017 Pepsi National Elite Basketball League competition is fast coming to a close. On Thursday 4th May at the UB Gymnasium in Belmopan in the second game of the semi-final round between the Belmopan Bandits and the Dangriga Dream Ballers, the Belmopan Bandits narrowly eliminated the Dangriga Dream Ballers by the score of 76-72 to advance to the finals for the very first time in the team’s history.

The top scorers for the Belmopan Bandits were Farron Louriano with 24 points, 13 rebounds and a steal; Devin Daly with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals and Stephen Williams with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal.

For the visiting Dangriga Dream Ballers, the top scorers were Dillmore Conorquie with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals; Quinton Bowen with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and Tahj Wells who contributed 14 points to go along with his 12 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal in a heart-breaking defeat.

In the second semi-final game played on Saturday 6th May at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town between the former champions the San Pedro Tiger Sharks and the Cayo Western Ballaz, the Cayo Western Ballaz defeated the San Pedro Tiger Sharks by the score of 75-63 to force the third and final game of the series between the two teams on Sunday 14th May, out at the San Pedro High School Auditorium commencing at 1:00 pm.

The top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were Darwin Leslie with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals; Ray Cruz who scored 13 points and contributed 5 rebounds to go along with his 3 assists and Ivan Flowers who scored 11 points, a rebound and an assist towards the win.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were Kurt Burgess with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal; Raul Roches who also scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and Jamal Kelly who scored 10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals.

The winner of this series will face the Belmopan Bandits in the finals of the 2017 Pepsi National Elite Basketball League championship.
