Activities for International Museum Day are being observed in Belize this week in partnership with a number of entities.  As part of the celebration of International Museum Day 2017, the Museum of Belize is partnering with the Embassy of Panama in Belize in an effort to highlight both the Belizean and Panamanian cultures. The exhibit will run from May 18th to July 18th. The public is invited to view the exhibit at the Museum of Belize, from Mondays to Saturdays, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

To help celebrate International Museum Day for 2017, the Institute of Archaeology was present at the Benque House of Culture (NICH) on Tuesday alongside the Institute for Social & Cultural Research, Oceana Belize and the Department of the Environment - DOE. At the House of Culture in Benque, the students learned about excavating and Maya hieroglyphics. (The Institute of Archaeology would like to thank Jorge de Leon for his wonderful help in the Maya hieroglyphics as well as Actun Uayazba Kab and the wonderful historic imprints of hands.)  The events at the House of Culture in Western Belize continued on Wednesday.

Every year since 1977, International Museum Day has been organized worldwide around May 18. This day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. In recent years, International Museum Day has involved 30,000 museums with activities in more than 120 countries.
