The Pepsi National Elite Basketball League 2017 competition entered its championship round on Saturday 20th May, with the first game in the best of three series at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town between the San Pedro Tiger Sharks and the Belmopan Bandits.

In the first game of the championship series, the top team in the league, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, won over the number three seed the Belmopan Bandits by the score of 69-60.

The top scorer for the host team the San Pedro Tiger Sharks was Ashton Edwards who scored 18 points. Edwards supporting cast includes, George Williams who scored 15 points to go along with his 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals; Raul Roches who also scored 15 points along with his 10 rebounds and an assist and Kurt Burgess who grabbed 11 rebounds all towards the first win in the series.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Belmopan Bandits were, Farron Louriano with 17 points and 8 rebounds; Stephen Williams with 13 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist and Richard Smith III who scored 12 points to go along with his 17 rebounds and an assist.

The second game in the best of three series will be played on Thursday 25th May, 2017, at 9:00 pm at the UB Gymnasium in the City of Belmopan.

A win for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks on Thursday 25th May will give the team its third title in four years. However, if the Belmopan Bandits find the will to win and wins on Thursday 25th May, then a game three will become necessary.

If a game three becomes necessary, it will be played on Saturday 3rd June, 2017, at 9:00 pm at the San Pedro High School Auditorium.
