Well known Belizean artist, Alex Croft Jr., is behind bars after he was dragged to court on a charge of theft. Allegations are that on May 28, 2017, he stole from Jamile Williams. In court, Croft, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. He was granted bail in the sum of $500 plus one surety of the same amount. He was also ordered to pay his old court debts in default of prison time.

According to Williams in a police report made the same day, she was socializing with Croft at a restaurant on the Phillip Goldson Highway. She got up to use the bathroom and left her purse behind. Upon returning, Croft and her purse were gone. On surveillance cameras, it was viewed that Croft was the culprit. According to Williams, a total of $250 was in the purse but since then, only $92 has been recovered and so Croft was charged for the remaining $158.

Croft’s next court date in the matter of theft is set for July 28, 2017 for disclosure while August 16, 2017 is set for trial.
