Bike thief gets 3 months in jail Print E-mail

A Belize City man is serving a 3 month sentence after he pleaded guilty to theft of a woman’s bicycle. Surveillance video provided by a camera at the Human Services Department showed 41-year-old Jerry Garbutt, a printer and resident of Gibnut Street in Belize City, as he stole the bicycle.

Garbutt appeared before Magistrate, Carlon Mendoza on Friday, May 26, 2017 where he was read a single charge of theft of a bicycle. The bicycle belongs to Pastora Galvez, a Belizean resident and Domestic of Jane Usher Boulevard.

The theft occured on May 9, 2017, at the Human Services Department. In a report to police, Galvez reported that she visited the Human Services Department to conduct some business when she left her bicycle parked in the corridor of the first floor. According to Galvez, the bicycle was missing when she came back. It was on a surveillance camera footage that Garbutt was seen taking the bicycle.
