Police visited the San Jose Village, Orange Walk District on May 25, 2017 where they saw a board with zinc kitchen and a board with zinc bodega engulfed in flames. 78-year-old Ruperto Chi reported that he was awaken by noise outside and upon making checks, he saw the kitchen and bodega on fire. He believes that the fire started from a fire hearth that was left lit. Police are investigating.

There was another fire in Orange Walk on May 26. Police along with fire personnel responded to a house fire in Carmelita Village. They saw a green and white cement house with zinc roof located near the football field completely destroyed by fire. The caretaker, Eustace Flowers, reported that the electricity went off and moments later, he saw the building on fire. The house is owned by Carol Gillette who is presently in the USA. Police and fire personnel are investigating.
