After a combined 15 years in the making, the Belize Ports Authority has a permanent home as a new building was inaugurated on Wednesday May 31. Coming at a cost of 1.7 million dollars and located next to the Belize National Coast Guard headquarters in Belize City, the building is appropriately located for its role. Minister of NEMO and Transport, Hon. Edmund Castro explained that the proximity to the coast guard gives the agency an advantage in order for better communication and coordination between the two.

Ports Commissioner, Merlene Bailey Martinez, explained that the building was financed with a loan from Heritage Bank which government ultimately had to give approval for.
