The Battlefield Park was packed on Saturday, May 27, 2017 as the Belize City Council held its first Coconut Fest to highlight the prominent Belizean fruit. The success of the fest was shown by the packed area that received a myriad of entertainment from several Belizean entertainers. On sale were various coconut foods and treats- from the savory coconut milk rice and beans to sweets such as tablata and stretch-mi-guts. Other vendors creatively made craft from the shell of the fruit. And it would not be a fest if the savory drink was not on sale as well. By nightfall, vendors were happily sold out.

The lead organizer of the event was Councilor Jason Edwards who believed that it was a chance to highlight the fruit in its versatility.
